"Committee" Calls for Ban on Semi-Automatics

A committee set up after the 2008 school shooting in Kauhajoki has recommended that Finland ban semi-automatic handguns. It also wants to tighten laws governing gun licenses...The group handed its report to Justice Minister Tuija Brax on Wednesday...Interior Minister Anne Holmlund said...that she wants to thoroughly review the committee report before taking a position a ban on semi-automatic handguns. She added that the government is ready to consider banning certain models of weapons, but studies on the issue have not yet been completed.
Holmlund also pointed out that the committee report contains a dissenting position on banning semi-automatics...

Same old anti-gun formula, different location. Mad-Dog cowardly Killer rampages, Gun-Haters seize the opportunity to dance in the blood of the dead by blaming the tool instead of the criminal; create a false panic to the public (in this case, demonizing "evil semi-automatics") then "save" the same public by vainly attempting to ban a 100+ year old technology in a fit of misguided mass-punishment affecting thousands of sane peaceable individuals defacto blamed for the depredations of one isolated madman. A country that once stood off invasion due to the bravery of their tough, hardy Riflemen now seem to be embracing the ideas of spineless Do-gooding Fools, apparently without a shred of protest. Are there no heroes left there to fight back against tyrants as they did in the 1940's?..(S9)

Senate Bill 516- "Assault Weapons" Ban WITHDRAWN by Sponsor

Thanks to the massive opposition and outcry against this extreme anti-gun bill, the sponsor has elected to withdraw the legislation. Senate Bill 516 would have prohibited the possession, transfer or receipt of these firearms by law-abiding Maryland residents.
Specifically this bill would have…
- Prohibited most semi-automatic pistols. The bill defines any semi-automatic pistol as an "assault weapon," if it can be fitted with a threaded barrel. Virtually all modern semi-automatic pistols 9mm and above use barrels that are readily removable and replaceable, of course.
- Prohibited semi-automatic shotguns configured for home protection with a pistol grip and folding stock, regardless of barrel length or magazine capacity.
- Prohibited versions of the AR-15 that are currently legal in California by prohibiting any detachable magazine semi-automatic rifle that could be fitted with a pistol grip. California bans this kind of rifle only if it is fitted with a pistol grip.
- Prohibited anyone who lives outside Maryland from bringing an AR-15, M1A, or other such rifle into the state for lawful purposes, such as a training class or marksmanship competition.

This is a well deserved victory for Maryland’s law-abiding gun owners...

Maryland Political hacks seek Ban on Semi-Auto Firearms

State Senator Michael Lenett (D-19) introduced Senate Bill 516, a bill that would designate certain firearms as "assault weapons" and would prohibit the possession, transfer or receipt of these firearms by law-abiding Maryland residents. The bill has been assigned to the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee.
Lenett’s extreme attack...should not be taken lightly...
Specifically this bill would…
- Prohibit most semi-automatic pistols. The bill defines any semi-automatic pistol as an "assault weapon," if it can be fitted with a threaded barrel. Virtually all modern semi-automatic pistols 9mm and above use barrels that are readily removable and replaceable, of course.
- Prohibit semi-automatic shotguns configured for home protection with a pistol grip and folding stock, regardless of barrel length or magazine capacity.
- Prohibit versions of the AR-15 that are currently legal in California by prohibiting any detachable magazine semi-automatic rifle that could be fitted with a pistol grip. California bans this kind of rifle only if it is fitted with a pistol grip.
- Prohibit anyone who lives outside Maryland from bringing an AR-15, M1A, or other such rifle into the state for lawful purposes, such as a training class or marksmanship competition...

In pushing for any "assault weapon" restriction, especially one with a broader definition, gun control supporters prove that they are motivated entirely by their warped ideology and cultural bias against gun owners, and care nothing for the facts or the rights of the American people.
With no coherent reason to ban semi-automatic firearms among honest, law-abiding residents in Maryland, SB 516 is nothing more than posturing by an extreme anti-gun politician
