Canadian Tyranny: It's time to pull the plug on the long-gun registry

Last year alone, the registry was used 3.8 million times. That averages out to 10,411 times a day -- or seven times a minute, 365 days a year.
Here's what that means, according to rank-and-file officers who oppose the registry. Each time an officer searches for any kind of information about anyone, the database is tapped. It's accessed automatically, all the time.
Police routinely assume there may be firearms inside a dwelling, registry or no. That's why they wear tactical vests and take routine precautions. The registry is not enforceable. And criminals do not register their weapons.
Polls show that Canadians are evenly divided here. Rural Canadians, however, are overwhelmingly against. Rural people control some 70 seats in Parliament.
For that reason the Liberals now intend to soften the long-gun registry. The Conservatives, via private members' bill, are bent on killing it. The New Democrats are keeping mum for now, for fear of alienating their own rural vote.
The long-gun registry isn't worth the fuss. It's been on life-support for years. It's time to pull the plug.
